Minimally Invasive Bunion & Hammertoe Surgery
Advanced correction for bunions and hammertoes with smaller incisions and a faster recovery than traditional surgery.
What Is Minimally Invasive Bunion Surgery?
Minimally invasive surgery, or MIS, corrects foot deformities through very small incisions rather than the large openings traditional surgery requires. For many patients, that means less disruption to surrounding tissue, less scarring, and a quicker return to walking.
The procedure is performed in our in-office procedure suite using specialized instruments and real-time X-ray guidance, allowing Dr. McGrath to reposition the bone through incisions just a few millimeters long. Most patients walk in a surgical shoe the same day, without a cast or crutches.

Minimally Invasive vs Traditional Bunion Surgery
Traditional bunion surgery typically involves larger incisions and a longer recovery. MIS is performed through small incisions, which can mean reduced downtime and a faster path back to the activities you love.
Traditional Surgery
- Larger incisions
- Longer recovery time
- More post-operative discomfort
- Extended time off your feet
Minimally Invasive Surgery
- Small incisions
- Faster return to walking
- Less disruption to surrounding tissue
- Reduced downtime

Minimally Invasive Surgery FAQ
Many patients find minimally invasive bunion surgery less painful than traditional open surgery. Because the procedure uses small incisions and disrupts less surrounding tissue, discomfort is usually manageable, and Dr. McGrath will walk you through a pain management plan before your procedure.
